The Payton Art Department seeks to give students the tools to better interpret visual images while at the same time allowing them the opportunity to create their own works of art. One year of art is required for all Chicago Public School students. Art I, the prerequisite for all other art courses, is taught as a multi-level course and allows every student at Payton to work with a variety of techniques including painting/drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, fiber arts and computer graphics. Interested students are encouraged to take additional art classes in the media of their choice.
