Introduction

Students of the Social Sciences must be able to understand how cultural, political, and economic forces of the past have shaped and continue to influence our contemporary world. To meet this mission of Payton's Social Studies Department, our students will be able to: identify, describe and contextualize key events in world, U.S., and local history; effectively employ various methods of social science and historical analysis; and critically evaluate different interpretations of historical and contemporary events. At Payton students achieve a global perspective in the Social Sciences through their studies of history, anthropology, geography, and politics.
