It's the Global Connections Committee’s vision that every student will be able to travel to explore the world, weigh perspectives, connect ideas, and be an active leader in constructing a positive future. We are dedicated to helping Payton students and faculty broaden their perspectives by connecting them with travel opportunities in our community, country and abroad.

International Volunteer and Travel Opportunities

Concordia Language Villages' Summer Villages Programs offer children and youth a powerful combination of world language immersion, new cultural experiences and summer camp fun. Programs are available in Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. A variety of scholarships are available. Application deadline is February 29, 2012.

WorldChicago is recruiting 15-17 year old Chicago-area students to participate in the 4-week Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program this summer. This is a FREE program funded by the US State Department for students interested in traveling around the U.S, participated in the program last summer and would be glad to talk to any Payton students interested in applying. More information about this unique opportunity is available at www.worldchicago.org 
The application deadline is February 29, 2012.



Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) hosts programs for young adults to volunteer abroad. AMIGOS' volunteer opportunities focus on youth leadership training and community development in Latin America.  For more info about this program click here.
 

buildOn iis a non-profit organization that empowers primarily urban U.S. high school students through in-class and intensive afterschool youth service programs. In addition to tremendous contributions of community service in their own cities and neighborhoods, buildOn youth actually build schools and bring literacy to children and adults in developing countries around the world. buildOn programs are designed to build confidence and real-world capabilities in American youth while also empowering communities world-wide in Africa, South America, and South East Asia to overcome the cycle of illiteracy, poverty and low expectations by opening the door to education.  For more information click here. 


American Youth Leadership Program with Cambodia (AYLP)    The American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) is an exciting cross-cultural exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Youth Programs Division. This year’s AYLP with Cambodia, managed by Global Explorers, will bring together students and educators of diverse backgrounds from across the United States for a once in a lifetime 26-day expedition to Cambodia in June, 2012. The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program offers scholarships to American high school students to spend a semester or an academic year in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, Thailand, and Turkey. This post 9/11 program focuses on increasing understanding between people in the U.S. and countries with significant Muslim populations. The application deadline is January 11, 2012.
