ENVIRONMENT
Walter Payton College Preparatory High School is a modern, state-of-the-art facility on Chicago's near North side. The school opened in the fall of 2000, and boasts a staff and student attendance rate of more than 95 percent. Payton's technology-friendly design features smart desks in every classroom, allowing students direct access to software applications and resources on the Internet.
FACILITIES
Payton is also home to a World Language Lab, Distance Learning Lab, Computer Centers, 10 science labs, an Astronomy Lab/Planetarium, a Media Retrieval Center, Recital Hall, and 17 classrooms equipped for computer use to ensure that students have access to the newest technology available.
ACADEMICS
Payton is a math, science and world language college prep with a unique curriculum that includes Chinese, French, Japanese, Latin and Spanish; both Traditional and Physics First tracks in science; and an interdisciplinary humanities program with literature, history and arts integration. All core classes are taught at the Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) level. Payton's class schedule alternates 45-minute classes with block classes and one seminar day. Students choose four seminar classes each year. Seminar topics range from sculpting and math fractals to crime scene investigation and the Zulu language.
LEADERSHIP AND INSTRUCTION
Payton's multicultural staff was recruited from throughout the United States and abroad. Teachers hold degrees from universities that include Harvard, Northwestern, Yale, University of Chicago, Colgate, Georgetown, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Beijing, among others.
