SUGGESTED CALENDAR FOR TAKING THE PSAT, ACT, SAT AND SAT II TESTS
Minimize

SAT

October, Jr. year: Student takes the PSAT. Sign up for PSAT. The school will automatically sign up all students for the PSAT. PSAT will be administered.

December, Jr. year: Student will receive PSAT scores

January, Jr. year: After receiving above results, meet with your counselor to discuss your score.

February and March: The student should consider taking prep sessions or practice for the April ACT test and the June SAT test.

April: Take the ACT test (Be sure to check schedule from school so you don't miss the registration deadline.) Again list no schools.

May: Take just a couple of refresher sessions in preparation for the SAT test.

June: Take the SAT test (again there is a registration deadline.) List no schools. Consider taking SAT II tests depending on how competitive the schools are which the student may be applying to. It is recommended that you take the SAT II tests as close to the time that you took the subject matter course in school. Also, there's another ACT test (with a May deadline) in case you want to take it again again.

Senior year: There will be a late September ACT test and early October SAT I/II test(s), all scheduled early enough so that results can be sent to the colleges in time for Early Decision. There are also additional tests for students projecting later college application deadlines.

Is it necessary to prepare for the ACT/SAT/SAT II tests? There is no requirement that you prepare, but we think you should either practice on your own, sign up for on-line help or participate in a preparatory class. Most students who have practiced on their own or who have taken a class agree that it is essential to prepare yourself in some way.

The school counseling department will let you know where and when classes will be held. Sites such as www.princetonreview.com, www.collegeboard.com, and www.act.org are important sources of on-line assistance and practice tests and for test registration information.
