Math Department NewsPayton's Math Team placed 1st among the 55 schools competing in the North Suburban Math League at Wednesday night's meet. Through four meets this year, Payton ranks 3rd in the league, trailing only Naperville North and the Illinois Math Science Academy, with one meet remaining. The oral competition was completed for the year, with Payton senior Alex Zorn earning the loan perfect among oralists from the entire league. Alex also finished the year as the league's top oralist, a first for a Payton student. Daping Weng earned a perfect score in the Senior competition, where Payton is the top ranked school through 4 meets. Daping is ranked 3rd among all seniors competing this year. Vladimir Sotirov is ranked 14th among seniors, and Timothy Berry 16th. In the Junior competition, seven Payton students earned perfect scores Thursday night: Annaleigh Smith, Danielle Bennon, Ina Jazic, Jane huang, Adam Fishman, Matthew Waechter, and Sam Laubach. Adam ranks 5th among all juniors competing this year, Jane 15th, and Ina 20th. The junior team ranks 5th in NSML through four meets. Jane Huang and Matthew Waechter also earned perfect scores in the Sophomore competition. Cumulatively Matthew ranks 4th among all sophomores, and Jane ranks 8th. The sophomore team now ranks 3rd among the 55 teams competing. In the freshman competition, Matthew Schmookler ranks 17th in the league, and the freshman team is currently in 14th place. |
