Physical Education Dept Course Offerings


Physical Education I - Physical Education & Health

This course covers twenty weeks of health and twenty weeks of physical education. As a first year course, a strong emphasis is placed on decision-making skills. During the twenty weeks of health students work on the following topics; Wellness, Stress, Muscles and Bones, Nutrition, Human Sexuality (AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Reproduction, & Resistance Skills), Drugs (Tobacco, Alcohol, Steroids & Club Drugs), Infectious & Non-Infectious Diseases. The physical education portion will cover a broad overview of adventure education, team sports, individual sports, and aerobic activities. Pre and post fitness-program testing will be completed. This course is a graduation requirement.



Physical Education II - Physical Education & Driver Education

The course will cover thirty weeks of physical education and ten weeks of driver education. The physical education portion will cover a broad overview of team sports, individual sports and aerobic activities. The driver education portion will cover the basics of driving, and skills necessary to pass the state-driving test. This course is a graduation requirement.



Advanced Weight Training

This class consists of lifting weights, fitness activities (running, tae-bo, pilates, etc...), and anatomy and kinesiology classroom sessions. Students are expected to participate in both gym room and classroom environments. Prerequisites: Physical Education I and II



Physical Education Student Leader I

This class is for juniors only. Students will be trained to become a P.E. Leader as a senior. The course involves teaching peers and elementary students, community service projects, reading materials on leadership, and presenting both oral and written presentations. Students will accomplish the goals through a variety of sports and P.E. activities. Prerequisites: Physical Education I and II



Physical Education Student Leader II

Students will help lead physical education, health education and driver education classes. Prerequisites: Student Leaders I and approval from instructor



Team Sports

Units in Volleyball, Basketball, Flag Football, Floor Hockey, Softball, Team Handball, Speedball, and Soccer will be covered. Students will also learn the history behind each sport. Prerequisites: Physical Education I and II
