Ty Mulroy
[Technology Coordinator]

A graduate of Whitney Young Magnet High School, Mr. Mulroy returned to Chicago in 2004 after earning a BS in Computer Science at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. After working in both the corporate and not-for-profit environments for several years, he became a part of the Payton team in March 2007, and values his decision to use his time facilitating an educational environment. His duties include the implementation and maintenance of technology within the school, as well as providing technical assistance to staff, students, and parents. While Ty is not at work, he enjoys traveling, dining out in Chicago, and arguing about morality, politics, and science (particularly with his wife).

Jennifer Gran
[Web Design Teacher]

Ms. Gran graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a BA in Art Studio. Post college, she moved to Los Angeles to work as a model maker for the film industry. After working on such action-adventures as "Godzilla", "Armageddon", and "X Files, The Movie", Ms. Gran decided to make the move back to her hometown of Chicago. She spent the next few years working as a graphic / web designer and clothing designer before enrolling in Columbia College Chicago to earn her Masters of Arts in Teaching in Interdisciplinary Art Education. Ms. Gran started teaching at Payton in 2003 - she teaches Art I, AP Art Portfolio, and Web Design. She is also the co-sponsor of the Environmental Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance. Whenever she gets a free moment, Ms. Gran chooses to spend her time traveling abroad. She recently won an Earthwatch Fellowship to join a scientific expedition in Iceland where she worked on a glacier for a week. Her favorite travel spots so far include, the lava, glacier, and volcano filled landscapes of Iceland and the bustling well-lit streets of Tokyo. Ms. Gran is currently pursuing National Board Certification.

Ted Hogan
[Network Administrator]

Mr. Hogan is a graduate of Governors State University. He is a self taught software engineer and network administrator. He has extensive experience working as a software developer for hi-tech startups and as a consultant to fortune 500 companies. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Software Engineering degree at DePaul University. Mr. Hogan is also an officer in the Illinois Army National Guard and served as a Platoon Leader of an Infantry Platoon in Baghdad, Iraq from June 2006 to September 2007. Mr. Hogan enjoys keeping the network, servers, and website running here at Payton. When he's not yelling at a computer or trying to figure out why things arn't working you can find him riding around town on one of his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He joined the Payton team in 2003.

Vanessa O'Connor
[A/V]

Vanessa O’Connor has been interested in video broadcasting since she was in high school where she helped run her school's TV station. Her duties at Payton include producing and editing videos and graphics for our closed-circuit informational channel and other school events. She also manages the Safari Media Retrieval system, and helps operate the Recital Hall control room. She moved to Chicago in 1997 to attend Columbia College where she received a B.A. in Television Production. Vanessa also works for the United Center and Soldier Field scoreboards during home games and other events. She has been delighted to be a part of Walter Payton and has enjoyed being witness to many important events in our school's history. When she's not working, Mrs. O’Connor enjoys being outside, taking pictures, exploring Chicago, and spending time with her wonderful husband and son.

Bethany Pauter
[Computer Science Teacher]

Ms. Pauter graduated from the University of Arizona in 2001 with a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics. After moving to Chicago in 2002, she decided to enter the teaching profession. She earned her Master's of Education in Teaching and Learning Secondary Computer Science from DePaul University in 2004. During her years at Walter Payton, she has taught Algebra I, Computer Information Technology, Introductory Computer Science and AP Computer Science. Throughout high school and college, Ms. Pauter was involved in Colorguard and enjoys teaching the art of spinning flags and rifles on seminar days. In her free time she enjoys baking, playing with her cats, shooting darts or going to roller coaster parks.
