From freshman pizza party, to spirit wear sales, to Physics Day at Great America, all FOP programs and events are made possible thanks to those who take on the lead position. As a co-chair you will work with another parent/guardian as well as the FOP Volunteer Directors to solicit volunteers and coordinate the details particular to each event. Co-chair August Student Registration -- Payton students will head to school in late August to submit registration paperwork, receive Ventra cards for public transportation discounts, take ID and yearbook photos and pick up their class schedules. One person is needed to work with an experienced co-chair to solicit volunteers and coordinate their responsibilities in this back-to-school process. Registration is scheduled for the week of August 19th, Monday thru Thursday from 8 am to 4pm.
Freshman Orientation and Pizza Party -- Be a part of welcoming the freshman families to Payton. Two leads are needed to coordinate the pizza party, one person is needed to lead the family check in process. Freshman orientation will be Thursday, August 22nd from 3pm to 8pm.
Co-lead production of the Payton Student & Family Directory -- The work for this is heavily front-ended in September, and could be done anywhere, anytime (so long as it's in September). The directory is produced as a smartphone app called DirectorySpot and distributed to all Payton parents/guardians of current students. The job requires basic knowledge of Excel. One person is needed to work with an experienced co-chair.
Co-chair our spirit wear program -- Spirit Wear involves procuring and selling Payton-branded apparel and merchandise. The sales typically happen during Curriculum Night, Fall Report Card Pick up/Parent Teacher Conferences, Spring Report Card Pick up/Parent Teacher Conferences, Admitted Students Night and an occasional after-hours event. You'd work with another parent as well as FOP’s volunteer coordinators to solicit volunteers and confirm the volunteers are CPS-vetted.
Co-Chair teacher wish list -- The Wishlist provides an opportunity for Payton parents, alumni, and community members to give all or part of the cost of an item that would enhance a faculty member’s class, a department program, or any item not covered in the budget. One person is needed to work with an experienced co-chair in setting up the items on the Wishlist website as well as soliciting interest in the items through communication to the Payton community and staffing a volunteer table at events such as Curriculum Night and Parent Teacher Conferences.
Co-chair Curriculum Night – Work with another Payton parent/guardian and the FOP volunteer coordinators to communicate the event to the community, solicit volunteers to sell spirit wear and recruit parents/guardians for upcoming events as well as CPS Level 2 approval. One person is needed for this position. Curriculum Night is scheduled for the evening of September 17th, 2019.
Co-Chair Homecoming Dance Chaperone – Solicit 20 parent/guardian volunteers to chaperone the homecoming dance the evening of Saturday, October 5th. Work with student government to coordinate placement of chaperones in the gym and throughout the school hallways. You'd work with another parent as well as FOP’s volunteer coordinators to solicit volunteers and confirm the volunteers are CPS-vetted. One person is needed for this position.
Recruit exam proctors -- Work with Payton's standardized testing coordinator (who is also Payton's Athletics Director) George Klupchak to create signups and recruit volunteer proctors for PSAT practice tests in fall (tentative date October 2, 2019). You would also work with Payton's and FOP's volunteer coordinators to confirm your volunteer-proctors are CPS-vetted volunteers and to communicate with your volunteer-proctors on test times and instructions. One or two people are needed for this position.
Co-Chair Faculty Appreciation Lunches -- These happen 2x/year: during fall Report Card Pickup (November 14), spring RCPU (April 23). Typically, Payton families in the restaurant business donate food, but sometimes you will have to recruit for additional items, particularly desserts and beverages. You will work with a Payton parent to schedule volunteers to help with setup and clean up and provide for recognition for major food donors. You and a co-chair will work with FOP’s volunteer coordinators to confirm your volunteers are CPS-vetted volunteers. One person is needed for this position.
Co-Chair Wellness Day – Wellness Fair brings in health related organizations and businesses to Payton to engage students in conversations about physical, social, and emotional health. All freshmen participate as part of their PE and Health class and a majority of student body stop by during their lunch hours and enjoy sampling healthy food options. The FOP Wellness Fair Committee works along with the Youth Wellness Team and Ms. Bertoni. The fair date, determined by the Youth Wellness Team, is typically in the spring. The Youth Wellness Team invites service providers, situates, and supports their efforts throughout the day. The FOP Wellness Fair Committee solicits food donations and necessary supplies. The two groups worked together to set up and clean up afterwards. Two people are needed for this position.
Co-Chair Freshman Physics Day -- Our freshman physics and AP science classes take an epic field trip to Six Flags Great America in late May or early June. It's a whole-day affair involving several buses, hundreds of students and 2- or 3-dozen teachers and chaperones. The school organizes all the logistics. Chaperones get their admission and transportation to Six Flags taken care of for free, but they must commit to being with the kids for a looooong day (about 11 hours). Chaperones typically come from the freshman class, and each person must be vetted as a CPS-approved volunteer. You and a co-chair would be responsible for recruiting 25-30 parents/guardians serving as chaperones. You and a co-chair would also work with Payton's and FOP's volunteer coordinators to confirm your volunteer-chaperones are CPS-vetted volunteers and communicate with your volunteer-chaperones all necessary instructions for the day at Great America. Two freshman parent/guardians are needed for this position.
